Young Writer Competition 2023

Communication skills are one of the most sought after and useful skills that young people can demonstrate.  The Young Writer competition provides an opportunity for the young people of Foster Secondary College to put their creative skills to the test.

Competition Theme 2023 – ‘Volunteers’

The challenge

To produce an original piece of writing around the theme of ‘Volunteers’. 

The entry may be fiction prose, non-fiction prose or a poem which relates to the theme.

  • Up to a maximum 500 words for prose
  • Up to a maximum 40 lines for poetry
  • No pictures or drawings to be part of entry
  • All entries to be type written and submitted electronically. 

Eligibility

2023 Years 11 and 12 Foster Secondary College Students are eligible to enter. There is a limit of one entry per student. See link to entry form below.

Prizes

First Prize – $200 Second Prize – $150 Third Prize – $100

Judging criteria

The judges will consider the originality and imagination relative to the subject, engagement of the reader and consistency in the storyline.

Deadline for entry

All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form and be submitted to the Rotary Club of Foster by 31 December 2023.
